Fingerprints of God

While things have seemed quiet on our end for the adoption process, a lot is going on behind the scenes. We have been waiting on papers to be processed for our dossier. A few weeks ago, we finally received our completed home study report. Now we are just waiting for our 1-800A immigration approval. Every day I would see if that giant check I had written had cleared. Finally, it did!

The beginning of September brought our notice that we were to go to Charleston, WV to complete our bio-metric fingerprinting for the immigration approval. YAY! We had already done fingerprinting in Huntington, WV for police clearances, which were part of the home study paperwork. These particular fingerprints were to be done by the USCIS. The appointment was set for September 9,  2015 at 8:00AM. So, John and I made the necessary arrangements to get off of work and drive the hour and a half to Charleston to get our fingerprints completed.

The process did not take very long, but there was much to consider as I saw those little swirly lines appear on the screen from each of my fingertips. God has created each and every one of us with our very own unique set of fingerprints. There is no one else in the entire world who has the same! That’s just AMAZING, isn’t it? Our God is so creative, so detailed, so loving, that He would take the time to make separate little designs in each of our hands.

Those fingerprints felt like a formality, but they are an important step towards our daughter. Our daughter who also has a unique set of fingerprints. Our daughter who was created with PURPOSE and with her own story. Our family will never be the same. God has woven the perfect tapestry with each of us playing an important role in the artistry.

As John and I sat in the little coffee shop afterwards, enjoying each others company and a late breakfast, I couldn’t help but think of the incredible journey we are on. So much time has gone by since our agency approval, and we are STILL in the paperwork phase. However, my heart feels as thought we are closer to her. I cannot wait to get the dossier completed and get to the waiting stage to be matched. I want to see my sweet girl’s face. I want to show her picture to her brothers, who pray for her at night. I want to SEE the beauty of God in that child, whom He created perfectly for us.

If you want to know how to pray, pray for the dossier process to continue to go smoothly and quickly. We are waiting for immigration approval, then taking it and the home study through the local, state, federal, and consulate levels like we did with the first set of documents. After that, we will send the entire dossier to our agency for approval, and then on to China for approval. Then we will receive a LID (Logged-in Date). And then we wait… Yes, it is a long process. But God is with us every single step. Sometimes, He even allows us a cup of coffee and some peace and quiet to reflect on all He has done.

Since so much of my love for China and adoption has come from the influence of Steven Curtis Chapman and his family, I can’t help but think of his song:

“Fingerprints Of God”

I can see tears filling your eyes
And I know where they’re coming from
They’re coming from a heart that’s broken in two
By what you don’t see
The person in the mirror
Doesn’t look like the magazine
Oh, but when I look at you it’s clear to me that…

I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it’s true
You’re a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you’re covered with the fingerprints of God

Never has there been and never again
Will there be another you
Fashioned by God’s hand
And perfectly planned
To be just who you are
And what He’s been creating
Since the first beat of your heart
Is a living breathing priceless work of art…

I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it’s true
You’re a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you’re covered with the fingerprints of God

Just look at you
You’re a wonder in the making
Oh, and God’s not through, no
In fact, He’s just getting started…

I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it’s true
You’re a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you’re covered with the fingerprints of God

We are all so uniquely created by the Master of the Universe. Know that you are treasured, you are sacred, you are LOVED by Him. I pray this for our daughter; that she will FEEL His love. That she will come to know Him as her Abba, Father, Savior, and Friend.

  1. Rachel, as I think I’ve told you before, I hope you are keeping a journal/diary of your experience, not only with your daughter-in-waiting, but through the passing of your parents. You have a story to share & you are a beautifully gifted writer.

    God’s blessings
